LEVER LIVE: Q&A About The Norfolk Southern Train Derailment
This past weekend’s train derailment and ensuing controlled chemical release in East Palestine, Ohio, begs the question of how toxic accidents like this can occur. According to a blockbuster new report from The Lever, over the past few years, the rail industry helped kill a federal safety rule aimed at upgrading train braking systems, and industry lobbyists convinced regulators to exempt trains like the one that derailed in Ohio from being regulated as “high-hazard flammable trains.”
On Tuesday's Lever Live, David Sirota was joined by the Lever reporters who wrote the story. They also took questions from the audience LIVE on-air.
