YOU LOVE TO SEE IT: National Parks Score A Monumental Gift
Good things are happening! Housing and sustainability go hand-in-hand, supporting nature is a walk in the park, glucose monitors won’t be an arm and a leg, and Ohio’s anti-abortion laws are a miscarriage of justice.
Parks Donation Breaks New Ground
The National Park Foundation, the nonprofit that supports federal national parks, announced that it had received $100 million from the Lilly Endowment, the largest-ever donation to support American natural parks. While the foundation has not yet announced what the money will fund, some of the initiatives it will likely support include restoring coral reefs in Florida and restoring trout species in the West.
The Lilly Endowment, which supports causes related to community development, education, and religion, gets all of its funding from the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company. The endowment owns over 10 percent (or about $92 billion) of Eli Lilly’s shares, making it the company’s largest shareholder.
