The author doesn't mention (because only quoting the Hill) that six of the Dems voting for cloture have AIPAC among their top five donors, and four of those it is their number one donor. Pretty common knowledge that AIPAC is very happy with the work of the GOP and doesn't want to upset the apple cart.

I think the main problem is money in politics. In the late 90’s and early oughts I belonged to a non profit organization called Welfare Made A Difference. We would lobby inDC ( unpaid volunteers) , where except for the late Paul Wellstone, and a very few others we talked with staff as opposed to the actual Congress members. You could see the actual elected officials arm in arm with the big money lobbyists. People who think that this started with Citizens United are mistaken. Most of the Democrats are bought and paid for and elected officials may give lip service to us but unless by some miracle we get all money out of politics nothing will change unless we rise up and revolt.
