The Position:
The Lever is looking for an experienced newsletter writer/journalist to develop and author a bold new product for the outlet: A daily must-read email spotlighting the day’s most important and overlooked news, along with spotlighting The Lever’s latest money-in-politics and corporate-accountability journalism. Integrating best practices from financial and tech newsletters with incisive political analysis, news scooplets, and a vibrant editorial voice, the right candidate will help address an unmet need in digital journalism: Delivering concise and informative accountability reporting in a compelling and fun format designed to help the public make sense of the real forces shaping American politics.
This is a newsletter not just for political junkies — it’s also for normies looking for an enjoyable, easy-to-read dispatch that spotlights what’s really happening. Candidates do not have to come from a political media background, but do need to be news junkies with a strong writing voice. Those with a history of helming successful newsletters, daily news digests, or other fast-paced daily writing/scripting projects will be considered.
The reporter will be expected to file a newsletter every weekday, along with a round-up newsletter to be published on Sundays. This is a fully remote and full-time, salaried position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.
Qualifications:
- At least three to five years experience writing email newsletters or similar products.
- Deep knowledge of money in politics and an eagerness to track breaking daily developments in the space.
- Aptitude in writing clearly and concisely on complex, highly scrutinized matters and the confidence to wield a lively yet conscientious editorial voice.
- A track record of hitting deadlines and filing clean and accurate copy.

Senior Political Reporter
Location: Remote (Washington, D.C., preferred)

Salary Range: $80,000-$110,000
The Position:
The Lever is looking for an enterprising and aggressive senior political reporter with a lengthy track record of delivering groundbreaking national scoops that break through the noise and facilitate change. The reporter will be a reliable self-starter, using their deep well of sources, mastery of open-record requests, and data-analysis prowess to generate ambitious investigative reports on political and financial corruption. And they must have the writing chops to transform weeks or months of reporting into clear and compelling narratives.
We’re not interested in Beltway gossip; we’re following the money to expose the backroom deals screwing over the American people. The reporter will preferably be based in Washington, D.C. — but for the right candidate, other locations will be considered.
This is a senior-level hire — only candidates with extensive experience producing high-caliber investigations related to government and corporate accountability will be considered. This is a fully remote and full-time, salaried position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.

The Position:
The Lever is looking for a diligent and resourceful reporter with a track record of delivering impactful investigative stories that shed light on the inner workings of the U.S. political and financial system. The reporter will use record requests, subject-matter expertise, and a deep well of sources to generate eye-opening investigative scoops and analyses based on the news cycle of the day. Candidates who have a history of groundbreaking reporting in the realm of politics, business, technology, health care, or the environment will be considered.
The reporter will be expected to file a story a week, with the opportunity also to develop and deliver longer deep-dive reports. This is a fully remote and full-time, salaried position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.
