With its fast-growing subscribership, The Lever is building a news organization devoted to holding power accountable.
The Position:
The Lever is looking for a creative and ambitious producer to work on our flagship podcast Lever Time. In this role, the associate producer will be in charge of pitching episode ideas, booking guests, creating prep documents for hosts, and editing episodes in post-production. The associate producer will work closely with the senior podcast producer and reporters in our newsroom to produce thoughtful and engaging interviews along with narrative documentary-style episodes. The associate producer will also have the opportunity to produce their own originally reported audio pieces and host episodes themselves.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a broadcast journalism setting as a producer, reporter, or host, and have experience editing audio using programs like Pro Tools, Premier Pro, or Adobe Audition. The associate producer will be expected to produce at least one episode per week and be able to tackle all parts of the production process, including scriptwriting, scoring, and incorporating field and archival tape into episodes. This is a fully remote, full-time position with a salary range of $65,000 to $85,000 and benefits including a generous healthcare stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.
Qualifications:
- At least two years experience working on a weekly news-oriented podcast, radio, or television program.
- Proficiency with audio editing software like Pro Tools.
- A deep passion for political and business news.
- A sharp sense of what is driving the news and what stories can resonate with audiences.
- The ability to use voice, point of view, and humor to make each episode as engaging as possible without sacrificing journalistic integrity.
- A proven track record of being able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- The wherewithal to source and professionally manage high-profile speakers and guests, as well as coordinate event flow.
- A strong grasp of what makes for a good Lever podcast episode and live event.
- Impeccable organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A willingness to work closely with a small team of hardworking remote journalists.
- Clean and concise writing skills.
- Commitment to The Lever’s subscriber-funded model and approach to accountability journalism.
