Now Hiring: Senior Political Reporter
Location: Remote (Washington, D.C., preferred)
Job status: Full-time
Salary Range: $80,000-$110,000
The Position:
The Lever is looking for an enterprising and aggressive senior political reporter with a lengthy track record of delivering groundbreaking national scoops that break through the noise and facilitate change. The reporter will be a reliable self-starter, using their deep well of sources, mastery of open-record requests, and data-analysis prowess to generate ambitious investigative reports on political and financial corruption. And they must have the writing chops to transform weeks or months of reporting into clear and compelling narratives.
We’re not interested in Beltway gossip; we’re following the money to expose the backroom deals screwing over the American people. The reporter will preferably be based in Washington, D.C. — but for the right candidate, other locations will be considered.
This is a senior-level hire — only candidates with extensive experience producing high-caliber investigations related to government and corporate accountability will be considered. This is a fully remote and full-time, salaried position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.
Qualifications:
- At least seven years experience as a reporter, with at least three years focused on investigations.
- Extensive experience filing record requests, tracking political donations, and scrutinizing business records.
- A proven history of delivering impactful investigative reporting projects.
- A strong grasp of what makes for a good Lever story.
- A keen ability to track and respond to the ever-shifting news cycle.
- Proven aptitude in hitting deadlines and filing clean and accurate copy on complex, highly scrutinized matters.
- Comfort and proficiency in operating independently while also working in harmony with a small team of hardworking remote journalists.
- Commitment to The Lever’s subscriber-supported model and approach to accountability journalism.
- The passion, imagination, and ambition needed to build a transformative news organization.
