A new report lays out a commonsense proposal to ease the growing pain of pumping gas.
As gas prices continue to spike, conservatives, and liberals alike have surfaced proposals to help address the sticker shock, such as offering tax rebates for drivers and suspending gas taxes. But as we highlight below in this edition of Weekend Reader, there is another promising solution that has yet to enter the national debate: “Pay people to get out of their cars.”

Electric bikes are a game changer. I sold my last car in 1989 and have been on a bicycle ever since. But as I am about to turn 70 my reasonable riding radius was getting pretty small. Now I go up to Brainard lake or down to Broomfield with no problem. Without all the maintenance and noise and vibration of a motorcycle. With excellent $1,000 ebikes like the Lectric XP 2, almost everyone should be using one. 0 degrees with 6 in of snow? No problem.

If your employer refuses you work from home or your municipality doesn't provide adequate mass transit, dedicated bike paths or community high speed internet; your "ellected officials" will have to jump outa choppers with guns blazing and K-Bar knives in their teeth to fetch you up some-other-bodies' oil, gas, bitumen, uranium while you whine and complain about personal responsibility from your sofa?
